Tips, Variations, And Substitutes
🌰 Brown sugar or palm sugar – If you don’t have maple syrup you can add brown sugar instead as a sweetener. Brown sugar also caramelizes as you cook down the apples which coats the apple slices beautifully and helps thicken up the dressing.
🌰 Vanilla – This adds a sweet aroma to the salad. You may mix a few drops of vanilla extract into the dressing if you wish.
🌰 Pecan – If you want to have a crunchy element, you may add nuts like pecans. Just remember to toast the pecans also to make it crunchier and all the oil and fat from the nut will activate. This gives it a nuttier taste.
🌰 Vegan Cream cheese/ Sour cream/ Greek yogurt – If you want a creamy grape salad recipe, add a few tablespoons of cream cheese or sour cream to the salad dressing before serving.
How To Store
If you want to make this recipe ahead of time just keep the cooked apples in the dressing and the other ingredients separately. Cover and refrigerate until serving.
Store leftovers (salad and dressing) separate from the other ingredients before it is served will prevent the salad and fruits from wilting.
The dressing will prevent the apples from oxidizing so you can keep them together.
